Fuji is a very popular apple known for its perfect balance of sweetness and tartness.
It often has honey-like syrup inside, and is juicy and flavorful.
The flesh is firm and crisp, giving it a great crunchy bite.
Fuji was created by crossing two apple types: “Kokko” and “Delicious.”
The main difference between “Sun Fuji” and “Fuji” is how they are grown – with or without a protective bag around the fruit.
Sun Fuji
While Fuji apples are grown with bags, Sun Fuji apples are grown without bags, allowing them to soak up plenty of sunlight.
This helps the apples develop more natural sugars and often more honey inside.
However, the skin may be rougher, and they don’t store as well.
So, Sun Fuji apples are usually only available from November to March.
Fuji
Fuji apples are grown with bags, which gives them a smooth and beautiful red skin.
But compared to Sun Fuji, they are usually a little less sweet.
After harvest, they are stored in CA (Controlled Atmosphere) storage and sold from April to August.
Fuji apples often contain honey inside, but over time, this honey will slowly disappear.
If you want to enjoy the honey-filled apples, it's best to eat Sun Fuji harvested in November to December.
Note: Not all Fuji apples will have honey inside.
