Setoka is a hybrid of three citrus varieties—Kiyomi, Encore, and Murcott—and was registered as a variety in 2001.
It combines the juiciness of Kiyomi, the aromatic quality and thin peel of Encore, and the rich, well-balanced flavor of Murcott, making it a true blend of the best qualities of citrus fruits.
The name “Setoka” is said to have been derived from the name of the region visible from the breeding site (Kuchinotsu Town, Nagasaki Prefecture), the expectations for cultivation in the Seto Inland Sea region, and the variety's attractive aroma.
